Episode 48: The Sky Is Gentle ft Crunchyroll’s Cristal Marie (Fruits Basket Eps 22 & 23)

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and Cristal Marie review episodes twenty-two and twenty-three of Fruits Basket (2019). In episode 22, we learn all about Hanajima’s powers and dark past. This episode was a really heavy hitter and brings out some Rocky Road moments in Sprinkles on Top. Hanajima’s family is loving, supportive, and sweet to their daughter. In particular, Megumi’s prayer for someone who understands his sister to come into her life really tugs at everyone’s heartstrings. There is also confusion and speculation about what Hanajima’s power truly is and where it could possibly come from. Hana’s bullying comes with a healthy serving of Hot Fudge. In episode 23, Kyo’s sweet blushy moments and cooking for Tohru to show appreciation when she was sick earn spots in everyone’s Floats Your Boat. Shigure saying “Be a good girl” to Tohru makes its home in Banana Split for a reason you probably wouldn’t expect. Chika and Cristal get vulnerable in Hot Fudge about their mental health struggles versus the expectations of those around them. Kagura receives yet another healthy serving of I Scream, You Scream.
