Episode 47: A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing ft Anibae’s Anime (Fruits Basket Eps 19-21)
In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and Crimson, Farris, and Stoney of Anibaes Anime review episodes nineteen through twenty-one of Fruits Basket (2019). In episode 19, the interpretation of the Sohma’s acceptance, or lack thereof, of Ritsu’s identity differs amongst the ladies. Ritsu’s gift of books about fruit as opposed to actual fruit for Tohru also banana splits the ladies’ (mainly Giana’s) opinions. The non-humor of Mitsuru’s drastic measures due to Shigure’s antics gets a heavy helping of hot fudge. In episode 20, Hiro Sohma gets on EVERYBODY’S last nerve. Giana mistakes a Twilight quote for some old, fancy poem. While this episode is centered more on Hiro Sohma, Chika points out that it brings more to light about Kisa’s trauma and unsettling relationship with her mother. In episode 21, Crimson points out that Matoko’s character design could be purposely pinning her as an “anti-Tohru”. The expectations versus reality of Hanajima’s home gives everyone a good laugh. Matoko’s and the Yuki Fan Club’s behavior gets a heavy scoop of I Scream, You Scream.
